Chrome Hoof

An increible band I was just introduced to by a friend on Facebook...Chrome Hoof. Heavy psyche prog 1970's space rock jazz fusion . Brilliant. They remind me of a cross between Hawkwind, Magma, King Crimson, and Chrome. Check them out. I'm going to be tracking down more of their stuff...Thanks Jeremy!

Chrome: Off the Line

Atmospheric and creepy as hell lost in the depths of space horror from the final Chrome album with Helios Creed, THIRD FROM THE SUN. Here's OFF THE LINE. Check it out. This song always gives me the chills.

Chrome: Magnetic Dwarf Reptile

Brilliant cut-up/garage/pysch/sci-fi punk from the late 1970's. Some very early Chrome, from the album "Alien Soundtracks". Here's "Magnetic Dwarf Reptile". Warped indeed.

Chrome: Artificial Human

Here's a track from 1997....when Helios Creed briefly reformed Chrome after Damon Edge's (the long defunct band's co-founder) death. The album is "Retro Transmission", a brilliant work, one of Chrome's and Helios Creed's best. The song..."Artificial Human". As cold as the depths of space....untouchable.

Chrome: In a Dream

Another knock out Chrome track form 1981's "Inworlds". Spectral, addictive, out there..."In a Dream". Brilliant.

Chrome: Danger Zone

While we're on the subject of Chrome, here's one of my personal favorite tracks of theirs. Lethal, paranoid, and catchy as hell. It's "Danger Zone" from their 1981 album "Inworlds". Enjoy.

CHROME'S "HALF MACHINE LIP MOVES" & "ALIEN SOUNDTRACKS"

Chrome was a highly original sounding and influential futuristic science fiction/punk band that came out in the mid 1970's. Chrome's sound is incredible..they use tape loops and all kinds of homemade sound effects to a nightmarish effect. Helios Creed's deranged, psychedelic guitar playing, and distorted vocals add to the mix. Combine that with Damon Edge's ear for cold keyboards, synths, and dance rhythms and you have apocalyptic
futuristic/punk/dance/metal/space rock for a millennium that has yet to come. Their music paints haunting and alien aural soundscapes and their lyrics convey an acute sense of paranoia and isolation. If there is such a thing as a soundtrack to the works of Philip K. Dick or the cut-up science fiction works of William S. Burroughs, Chrome is it. Chrome would eventually disband after Helios Creed left the band in 1983 to pursue a solo career. After Damon Edge's death in 1995, Helios Creed reformed Chrome, releasing some new material and performed several live shows.

I love all of Chrome's output with Helios Creed, so it is hard to name a favorite. All of their albums are different, each painting a different mood. My personal favorites are "Half Machine Lip Moves" and "Alien Soundtracks", both released in the late 1970's. You can purchase them separately or as one album. These two works are Chrome's most adventurous. They effortlessly blend cut-up sound collages and tape loops in with their unrelenting punk/industrial space rock soundscapes. It is difficult to determine where one song ends and the next one begins at times. Both releases are best appreciated listened to as a whole, or back to back, as they both have a similar feel.

Here's "You've Been Duplicated" from 'Half Machine Lip Moves"...

...and here's "Slip It to the Android" from "Alien Soundtracks". Enjoy.

HELIOS CREED "EYE OF THE VORTEX"

This is from the pychedelic space rock master's EP "Not Without Sorcery"(2008). The song is a actually a sneak preview of the material that is going to be on Helios Creed's new full length album 'Transparency". I like what I hear. It's an instrumental, very trippy yet cold. It reminds me a lot of his material with Chrome. Anyway, here it is..."The Eye of the Vortex". Very acid drenched video too.

HELIOS CREED: LACTATING PURPLE

Helios Creed. An incredible singer/guitar player who started out in the science fiction, psychedelic punk band Chrome in the mid 1970's through the early 1980's. After leaving Chrome he went solo, recording several albums from the mid 1980's though today. His best work is Lactating Purple"(1991). It is die-hard psychedelic space rock, like a much, much heavier 1970's Hawkwind. The vocals are back-masked and distorted beyond recognition. The music is blistering, mind blowing space metal, with heavy, backwards, slowed down and sped up guitar tracks layered over a fast, driving beat, loaded with distortion. Helios Creed's guitar playing brings to mind Jimi Hendrix at his strangest. Helios Creed's philosophy of the guitar is to turn everything on at once and see what happens. "Lactating Purple" gives you the feeling of traveling through space at light speed, loaded on psychedelics. Of course there is some time for you to land and stretch your legs, to soak in some bizarre alien landscapes before you blast off again into hyperspace.

Helios Creed has left behind a huge body of material throughout his career. Start out with "Lactating Purple" and venture out into his other albums if you like what you hear. If you're like me you will be hooked, and you will be on a life-long quest to find everything he has ever recorded. And believe me, it is a daunting task indeed.

Here's "Nebuchadnezzer" and 'Modular Green", both from "Lactating Purple". Enjoy, and have a safe landing.
