Mind-bendingly heavy prog-metal courtesy of Mastodon. Here's BLOOD AND THUNDER from their LEVIATHAN album.

Witchcraft: Attention!
Bessie Smith: I Aint Goin' to Play No Second Fiddle
Some low down, dirty, painful blues. You can't go wrong with Bessie Smith.
Christian Death: Skeleton Kiss
Some excellent goth/punk/doom from Christian Death's THE IRON MASK. Here's SKELETON KISS...absolutely untouchable. Akin to goth/punk meets Saint Vitus, THE IRON MASK is an album any self respecting doom fan should have in their collection.
Labels:
Christian Death,
Deathwish,
Saint Vitus,
The Iron Mask
Charels Mingus: Better Git It in Your Soul
I never can get enough of Charles Mingus' music. Here's BETTER GIT IT IN YOUR SOUL from his 1959 MINGUS AH-UM album. This track is on fire. Dig.
The Kinks: Til the End of the Day
I have a weakness for early Kinks. Don't know why, I just do. Here's TIL THE END OF THE DAY. Enjoy.

A Couple of Cool Finds...

More Fu Manchu
More Fu Manchu from King of the Road. Here's Hell on Wheels and Over the Edge. Dig.
Labels:
Fu Manchu,
Hell on Wheels,
King of the Road,
Over the Edge
Fu Manchu: Hotdoggin'
Superbly heavy desert stoner rock from California. I love Fu Manchu, but it took a while for their 2000 "King of the Road" album to grow on me, but grow on me it did. Too much. Hell, give me a Boogie Van so I can drive like Hell on Wheels. I'm King of the Road you know, Over the Edge and I've got a Weird Beard...gotta get to California. And don't tell me No Dice....I'll get Blue Tile Fever and have to break out the Grasschopper on ya...
Captain Beyond: Frozen Over
An excellent example of unpretentious, heavy psych prog rock. Captain Beyond's energy and creativity was out of control. Just give their 1971 self-titled debut album a listen. If you are into Monster Magnet, take note. Besides the obvious Black Sabbath and Hawkwind influences, Captain Beyond is part of the backbone of Monster Magnet's sound. Here's "Frozen Over" for your aural pleasure.
Chrome: Magnetic Dwarf Reptile
Brilliant cut-up/garage/pysch/sci-fi punk from the late 1970's. Some very early Chrome, from the album "Alien Soundtracks". Here's "Magnetic Dwarf Reptile". Warped indeed.
Labels:
Alien Soundtracks,
Chrome,
Magnetic Dwarf Reptile
Pentagram: Frustration
Here's some super heavy 1980's psych-doom..."Frustration" by Pentagram. From their album "Be Forewarned".
Chrome: Artificial Human
Here's a track from 1997....when Helios Creed briefly reformed Chrome after Damon Edge's (the long defunct band's co-founder) death. The album is "Retro Transmission", a brilliant work, one of Chrome's and Helios Creed's best. The song..."Artificial Human". As cold as the depths of space....untouchable.
Labels:
Artificial Human,
Chrome,
Damon Edge,
Helios Creed,
Retro Transmission
The Stooges: Dirt
Here's a track from The Stooges 1970 album "Funhouse". An incredible album...slightly understated. Not quite as in your face as their 1969 debut or their 1973 follow-up "Raw Power". Impressive, nonetheless. You have to let "Funhouse" grow on you a bit. Here's "Dirt" for your enjoyment. Everyone should have a copy of this album in their collection.
Lowrider: Riding Shotgun
Top-notch stoner metal from Sweden. They only put out one album, "Ode to Io". It's well worth checking out. Here's "Riding Shotgun", one of my favorite tracks.

Bauhaus: Crowds
One of my most favorite and one of the most powerful Bauhaus songs ever. From their debut album "In the Flat Field." Here's "Crowds", enjoy.
Creedence Clerwater Revival: Looking Out My Back Door
A guilty pleasure of mine. I love me some Creedence. Can't help it. Here's one of my favorite songs of theirs...."Looking Out My Back Door".
Pentagram: The Deist
And what is a Friday evening without a bit of Pentagram? Here's "The Deist" from their 1985 album "Relentless". Enjoy.
Electric Wizard: Return Trip
Mind-blowingly heavy doom here. So fuzzed out and low-end heavy it will threaten to blow your speakers. Perfect...pure molten lava psych metal. It's from their 1996 album "Come My Fanatics". Well worth the risky hearing and neurological damage that it may cause. Highly recommended. Here's "Return Trip".

SAINT VITUS: FEAR
Although I am partial to the Wino-era Saint Vitus, this song has become lodged in my brain for some reason. It's from 1992, from their "Children of Doom" album. Christian Linderrson is on vocals. No Wino by far, but impressive nonetheless. What a crushing riff! Masterful psych/doom. Going to have to give some of the post-Wino Saint Vitus a better chance. Here it is...."Fear".
Labels:
Children of Doom,
Christian Linderrson,
Saint Vitus,
Wino
BARONESS: A HORSE CALLED GOLGOTHA
Impressive. Baroness is a band that I have had my doubts about. I picked up their "Red Album" and I was not impressed. And now their latest release "Blue Record" is out, and I'm been considering picking it up for a while now due to rave reviews. After hearing "A Horse Called Golgotha", I know I need to get this album right away. Frightening and catchy prog/punk...somewhere between Mastadon and Fugazi. Check it out. Amazing video as well.
Labels:
A HOrse Called Golgotha,
Baroness,
Blue Record,
Fugazi,
Mastadon,
Red Album.
NUAGE FRACTAL
A strangely beautiful and disturbing song from Voivod's 1991 album "Angel Rat". Highly underrated. A review is coming soon for this album, but for the meantime, here's "Nuage Fractal". Enjoy.

My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult: A Daisy Chain 4 Satan
Just because. An incredible song with an excellent psych/drug/retro exploitation video to match. Enjoy.
Pentagram: Review Your Choices
Ultra-cool, superior doom circa late 1960's to very early 1970's, courtesy of Pentagram. On of the most sleek, groove laden, and catchy doom metal songs of all time..."Review Your Choices".

Joe Meek: I Hear a New World
Here's a little Joe Meek. Warped, twisted, and sick, the ultimate song to ring in a new decade. Too bad I could not find a full version of this song, so I guess a minute or so will have to do. Nauseating, demented, psych/futuristic reggae. Joe Meek was a genius. More on him soon.
Roger Miller: The Moon Is High (and So am I)
It's shaping up to be a great New Years evening. Here's a Roger Miller classic from 1964. "The moon is high and so am I. The stars are out and so will I be pretty soon..." Enjoy. There's a bonus track included.
Roger Miller: "Reincarnation"
I love some Roger Miller. He's an old school country artist but his music can be very deep. Dig this song..."Reincarnation".
"Damn It feels Good to Be a Gangsta"
Ok. I'm in an "Office Space" kind of way. I love that movie , love the soundtrack. Here's one song you can't start the New Year off wrong with..."Damn It Feels Good to Be a Gangsta" by the Geto Boys. A guilty pleasure I guess, but you have to watch the movie, then you will understand.
Syd Barrett: Baby Lemonade
A Little Sonics for the New Year...
Happy New Year everyone. Here's a little Sonics to blast in the New Year with. I love this band...completely out of control 1960's garage punk. Here's "Strychnine", and I hope 2010 is just as good as this song.
